STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擲tudents representing 青青草视频鈥檚 Department of Communication, Media and Theatre, along with 青青草视频鈥檚 radio station WMSV-FM 91.1 The Junction, earned more than two dozen student and professional honors at the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Annual Awards this month, pushing the department past its previous record and to a new high of 102 awards during the academic year.
The honors span news, sports, weather and digital media categories and showcase continued success across multiple platforms and competitions.
鈥淪eeing our students and recent graduates bring home more than 20 awards at this event is incredibly rewarding. It speaks to their work ethic, growth and commitment to storytelling. For me, that鈥檚 what it鈥檚 all about, helping develop the next generation of journalists who understand the impact of what we do and take pride in doing it the right way,鈥 said Marcus Hunter, associate professor of practice in the Department of Communication, Media and Theatre, who earned third place in TV Feature Story in the professional category.
鈥淲inning an award while still actively working in the industry means a lot to me because it reinforces that what I鈥檓 teaching in the classroom is current, relevant and real,鈥 added Hunter, who is an evening news anchor at WCBI鈥揟V in Columbus. 鈥淢y students aren鈥檛 just learning theory; they鈥檙e learning what鈥檚 working right now in newsrooms. Being able to bring that experience back to them every day helps bridge the gap between the classroom and the professional world, which is the ultimate goal.鈥
